Why is the JS Student Council Important?

What is a student council?

A Student Council is a group of elected and volunteer students working together with an adult advisor within the framework of a constitution or bylaws to provide a means for student expression and assistance in school affairs and activities, give opportunities for student experience in leadership and encourage student / faculty / community relations.

Who is on the student council?

In class 2 and 3 the student council representative is Jack Goodright.

In class 4 the student council representative is Mia Fijan Korsgaard.

In class 5 there are 2 student council members because it’s such a big class so the student council representatives are Maya Varga and Faustine Martin.

In class 6 the student council representative is Carlin Siguencia Paunescu.

Why is it important?

Both myself and Mia think being part of a student council is a very important job because we like to think it’s important for people to share their ideas. People’s ideas could make a GREAT change and everyone should have a voice. Most ideas are made possible. Although last term we wanted to have a Christmas party - we were going to make this idea happen but Covid decided to ruin it!

How often do you meet?

All the student council members meet in the Senior School café during lunch every month. Mrs Park calls it a business lunch meeting! We introduce some ideas that the students propose to us (the student council representatives) and we ask Mrs Lafond-Puyo and Mrs Park at the meeting.
